The Blacktown Solar City story so far

As the Blacktown Solar City project hits its third year, the residents of Blacktown City have shown their commitment to reducing their carbon footprint by participating in a range of offers and programs. Householders have shown their enthusiasm in saving the environment and reducing energy consumption with 15,000 Energy Efficient Packs distributed, over 3,500 home energy audits conducted and 139 contracts signed for residential ceiling insulation. There are also 330kW of solar generated through residential PV installations.

In local business, 100 kilowatt solar electricity system was installed at the Cadbury Schweppes and 110kW installed at Coca Cola Amatil.The most recent addition in commercial PV was the 50 kilowatt installed at Blacktown City Council Works Depot which was announced in May 2011. The Business Efficiency Program has also seen eighteen sign ups which points to willingness among the Blacktown City businesses to take action to reduce their energy consumption.
