The 'Make a Difference' School Competitions Terms and Conditions of Entry

  1. Entry may only be made by submitting a valid entry form available for download here.
  2. Information about each competition can be found here and such information forms part of these terms and conditions.
  3. Entry into each competition constitutes acceptance of these terms and conditions. Entries not completed in accordance with these terms and conditions are ineligible to enter.

Primary and Secondary School Energy Saver Competition

  1. Entry into this competition is open to all primary and secondary school students currently enrolled at a school within the Blacktown Project Area during the competition period.
  2. This competition commences on 1 April 2008 and ends on 30 September 2008. Entries will not be accepted after 4:30pm on 7 October 2008. Click here for further details on how to participate and submit a valid entry.
  3. Prizes will be awarded to each primary and secondary school that demonstrates the most energy savings and to each primary and secondary school that has most students participating. In the event of a tie, the entry that contains the most original and thoughtful energy-saving story will win. Winners of this competition will be notified by mail and prizes awarded at the Blacktown Solar City Science Fair.
  4. The winning schools will each receive a state of the art Fourier Weather Science Station valued at over $3,200.

Primary School Billboard Design Competition

  1. Entry into this competition is open to all primary school students enrolled at a school within the Blacktown Project Area during the competition period.
  2. This competition commences 1 April 2008 and all selected entries (up to six for each school) must be submitted to the entry submission box in the foyer of Blacktown City Council, 62 Flushcombe Road, Blacktown by 4:30pm on 30 September 2008.   3. Finalists will be chosen by the Members of the Blacktown Solar City Consortium based on the originality and creativity of the design including meeting all entry criteria. Finalists of this competition will have their billboard design shown at a special screening at Hoyts Blacktown on a date to be announced. The winning entry will be selected by Members of the Blacktown Solar City Consortium, and a people’s choice winner selected through online voting.
  4. Each winner will be announced and prizes will be awarded at the Blacktown Solar City Science Fair.
  5. The winning billboard entries will be displayed on a billboard in the Blacktown City area for 3 months and each winning entrant’s school will receive a state of the art Fourier EcoLog XL comprehensive science bundle valued at over $1200.

Secondary School Short Film/Documentary Competition

  1. Entry into this competition is open to all secondary school students enrolled in a school in the Blacktown Project Area during the competition period.
  2. This competition commences 1 April 2008 and all entries must be submitted to the entry submission box in the foyer of Blacktown City Council, 62 Flushcombe Road, Blacktown by 4:30pm on 30 September 2008. Click here for details on further submission requirements and how to submit a valid entry.
  3. Finalists of this competition will be selected by the Blacktown Solar City Consortium and will have their short film shown at a special screening at Hoyts Blacktown on a date to be announced. Members of the Blacktown Solar City Consortium will judge the winner based on originality and creativity and the entry meeting all entry criteria. A people’s choice winner will be selected through on-line voting. Each winner will be announced and prizes awarded at the Blacktown Solar City Science Fair.
  4. The director of the winning entry will receive admission to a 5-day course, ‘Introduction to Documentary’, at the Australian Film Television and Radio School, Sydney, plus a weekly travel card, valued at over $650. This prize includes reasonable travel on public transport but does not include accommodation, meal or other expenses. In the event an entry has multiple directors, please note that only one nominated director will receive this prize. The winning entrant’s school will also receive a Scientific Solar Explorer Kit valued at $1500.

General

  1. Each entrant agrees to read and sign and have his/her parent and/or legal guardian read and sign the Entry Form (including these Terms and Conditions) submitted with their entry.
  2. Each entrant agrees to obtain from each contributor to the entry including the performers (if applicable), consent (including moral rights consent) to their work being edited, altered and/or reproduced, in any manner by BP Solar in the form of a signed Consent Form provided by BP Solar.
  3. Each competition described above is a game of skill and chance plays no part in determining the winners.
  4. Entrants in the Billboard Design and Short Film/Documentary competitions must not include any swear words, sexual, violent or offensive conduct or visuals in their entries. Entries which include any language, visuals or conduct which is deemed to be offensive by BP Solar will be disqualified in BP Solar’s absolute discretion. BP Solar’s decision is final in this regard.
  5. The date of the Blacktown Solar City Science Fair is subject to change and is not within the control of BP Solar.
  6. The decision of BP Solar and the members of the Blacktown Solar City Consortium shall be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  7. Prizes are not exchangeable, transferable or redeemable for cash.
  8. BP Solar or members of the Blacktown Solar City Consortium are not liable for any loss, damage, personal injury or death whatsoever (including, but not limited to, indirect, consequential loss or loss of profits) suffered or sustained in connection with these competitions, the use of any prize or any act or omission of BP Solar or members of the Consortium, except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law.
  9. BP Solar and members of the Blacktown Solar City Consortium will not be responsible for any incorrect, inaccurate or incomplete information communicated in the course of or in connection with these competitions if the deficiency is occasioned by any cause outside the reasonable control of BP Solar or members of the Blacktown Solar City Consortium, including without limitation technical malfunctions or failures.
  10. Any costs associated with accessing the promotional website are the entrant’s responsibility and are dependent on the Internet service provider used. Any contact details entered incorrectly on the website will deem the entry to be invalid.
  11. To the extent permitted by law, BP Solar and members of the Blacktown Solar City Consortium exclude liability for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers, or providers, computer equipment, software, technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or any website, or any unauthorised intervention, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to entrant’s or any other person’s computer related to or resulting from participation in or downloading any materials in these competitions.
  12. If for any reason any of the competitions are not capable of running as planned in any respect due to any cause beyond the reasonable control of BP Solar, BP Solar reserves the right in its sole discretion to cancel, postpone or amend any of the competitions.
  13. BP Solar reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any individual whom BP Solar has reason to believe has breached any of these terms and conditions or any instructions or directions on the website, or engaged in any unlawful or other improper misconduct calculated to jeopardise the fair and proper conduct of any of the competitions. BP Solar’s legal rights to recover damages or other compensation from such an offender are reserved.
  14. All entries submitted by entrants will be collected and held by BP Solar. Entries will not be returned.
  15. Any information provided by entrants will be used by BP Solar for the purpose of conducting each competition. BP Solar may disclose entrants’ personal information to members of the Blacktown Solar City Consortium, contractors and agents to assist in conducting each competition. BP Solar is bound by the National Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). Entrants may request access to personal information held by BP Solar or view BP Solar’s privacy policy.
  16. No responsibility is taken for any lost, damaged or misdirected entries.
  17. Entries will be declared void if illegible, incomplete, copied, or contain unauthorised or inappropriate images or sound recordings.
