Ceiling Insulation

You can make a difference and save now with our discounted ceiling insulation package!

Not only will you save on the normal retail price for installation of Pink Batts. You will also receive an additional $200 discount to participate in our trial to measure energy savings from properly installed insulation and you are eligible to receive an additional rebate of up to $300 per household from the NSW Climate Change Fund.

Our offer
The Blacktown Solar City Ceiling Insulation package is offering the supply and professional installation of Pink Batts ceiling insulation.

Pink Batts are lightweight, flexible and resilient glasswool insulation batts, specially designed for thermal insulation of ceilings in both domestic and commercial ceilings. Pink Batts have the added benefit of being an effective sound absorber and so contribute to both thermal and acoustic comfort.

The best insulation material can be ineffective if it is installed poorly. How well your insulation is fitted is important, because heat can escape through small gaps or by thermal bridging. We will ensure that your ceiling insulation is correctly installed by professionals with minimum hassle to you.

By taking advantage of the reduced price of this special offer, your investment can pay for itself in just three years through reduced electricity bills for cooling and heating your home.

Our Price
You will save up to 10% on the standard retail price and receive an additional $200 subsidy from the Australian Government for participating in the Blacktown Solar City Energy and Comfort Trial. All prices include GST and there may be additional charges for houses with ducted air-conditioning.

For an average 130 square metre house the standard retail price for ceiling insulation is $1150 to $1200. Our special offer will save you up to $300.

You are also eligible to receive an additional rebate of up to $300 per household from the NSW Climate Change Fund (see www.environment.nsw.gov.au/rebates for more information).

The Blacktown Solar City Energy and Comfort Trial
As part of the Blacktown Solar City project, we are conducting a trial of the effectiveness of properly installed ceiling insulation on your household comfort and energy usage. By participating in this trial you will make a difference by providing valuable information to help influence future Australian Government policy.

As a participant in this trial, you will have up to four small unobtrusive temperature sensors mounted in your home one month prior to your home being insulated. The temperature loggers will remain in your home for approximately one month after the insulation has been installed.

Why Insulate?
Homes need insulation - to keep you warmer in winter, cooler in summer and to cut down on noise. Insulation can also make your air-conditioning unit work more efficiently - or remove the need for one at all!

Homes with quality insulation have lower energy bills - that's good for your pocket and the environment - saving you money as well as conserving our precious energy resources.

Older homes often have little or no insulation but they can be retrofitted, making them much more comfortable and saving energy for heating.

  1. Improve Comfort
An insulated home will be warmer in winter and cooler in summer. By helping to keep the heat in during the winter and out during summer, insulation will improve the comfort and liveability of your home.
  2. Save Money
Insulation can cut the cost of heating and cooling by over 40%. A properly insulated building could save up to $300 every year in energy bills, so insulation can normally pay itself within five years. However the main motivation behind installing insulation is often the added comfort and warmth, rather than financial savings. A typical building without insulation will require over 70% more heating and cooling energy than the same building with insulation.
  3. Help Protect the Environment
When less fuel is used for heating and cooling, less carbon dioxide is added to the atmosphere. This helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 9 tonnes per year per household, and will also conserve our precious non-renewable energy resources.

Understanding Insulation
‘Insulation’ refers to materials which provide substantial resistance to heat movement. By installing insulation in your home, the heat flow both into and out of the house is minimised.

In summer: insulation reduces the amount of heat entering through walls and ceilings keeping rooms cooler by up to 12 Degrees Celsius.

In winter: insulation helps to keep warmth inside. Saving energy doesn’t mean shivering through winter. Well-designed homes can maintain comfortable temperatures in winter with little and sometimes no artificial heating at all. Since hot air rises, the greatest loss of heat is through the ceiling. Ceiling insulation is remarkably effective and can reduce your winter heating bill by up to 30%.

How does Insulation work?
Heat flows naturally from a warmer to a cooler space. In the winter, this heat flow moves directly from all heated living spaces to adjacent unheated attics or ceiling cavities, garages, or to the outdoors; or indirectly through interior ceilings, walls, and floors - wherever there is a difference in temperature. During the cooling season, heat flows from outdoors to the house interior. To maintain comfort, the heat lost in winter must be replaced by your heating system and the heat gained in summer must be removed by your air conditioner. Insulating your home decreases this heat flow by providing an effective resistance to the flow of heat.

Insulation is rated in terms of thermal resistance, called R-value, which indicates the resistance to heat flow. The higher the R-value, the greater the insulating effectiveness. The R-value of thermal insulation depends on the type of material, its thickness, and density. Installing more insulation in your home increases R-value and the resistance to heat flow. R3.5 is recommended for the Blacktown area.
